If you want a TDI VW or Audi of any kind good luck finding one. There is a waiting list at every VW dealer in Denver for a new one and there are no used ones on the car lots that are worth having. When people get rid of a VW Diesel, it is usually WORN OUT, IF you want to know about the 2010 Jetta TDI, how it works and the equipment available on the car, you need to read this article. If you want a bunch of frivolous drivel, don’t bother. VW has had a good dependable Diesel for years. I remember the old Rabbit and Quantum Diesels back in the 80s. They were good economical vehicles then but are a far cry from the power emissions technology that the new VW diesels have. I have a friend who swears he drove his Quantum wagon from Casper Wyoming to LA on one tank of fuel. I still have my doubts but they did get close to fifty miles per gallon and I have heard claims of sixty. I had a 2003 Beetle TDI with a five speed manual that I was getting 47 MPG with under 5000 miles on it. I have a 2002 Jetta TDI that I average between 45 and 48 MPG and it is an automatic with over 100,000 miles on it. The TDI engine will run forever if you keep the oil and filters changed. Mine doesn’t burn any oil between changes and will flat get you a speeding ticket if you don’t watch it. The 2010 Jetta TDI has a 2.0 liter turbocharged four cylinder that puts out 140 horsepower. My 2002 has a 1.9 liter and puts out 90 horsepower. There is a noticeable difference in the pick up between the two. The new Diesels are not slow, noisy, and smokey like a lot of the uneducated tree huggers think and they are quiet and fun to drive. They will flat surprise you. They are darned quick, especially with the six speed manual. They even have Diesel drag races anymore and there are a lot of after market chips and exhaust systems available for the TDI. The 2010 VW Jetta TDI comes with two transmission choices. There is a six speed manual or a six speed automatic with Tiptronic and a Sport Mode. I would opt for the six speed automatic especially in Denver traffic. The new automatics actually get better mileage than the standard in a lot of cases. The driver of today contributes to that fact. I can still get much better mileage with a standard but it is the way I drive. The 2010 Jetta TDI comes with Electronic Stabilization Program with Brake Assist and disc wipe feature. It also has Electronic differential Lock.
